Representative Dr. Kem Smith proudly serves Missouri's 68th District with passion, purpose, and a deep commitment to the people who call North County home. A lifelong educator and community builder, Dr. Kem brings both lived experiences and legislative focus to the frontlines of the fight for equity in public education, healthcare, and economic opportunity.
Before stepping into the Capitol, she spent over 25 years in the classroom, inspiring young minds as a high school English teacher. Now, she uses that same drive to challenge harmful policies, advocate for working families, and bring meaningful change back to her district.
In her first term, Dr. Kem has:
-
Fought back against "revenge legislation" designed to silence communities and dismantle public education
-
Championed Black maternal health, paid sick leave for Missouri families, and economic development on behalf of the labor industry
-
Spoken boldly on the House floor in defense of women's reproductive rights and economic justice
-
Walked across the aisle to speak on tangible solutions for public safety and youth opportunity
Dr. Kem believes the best polices come from listening to people directly, not special interests. That's why she hosts townhalls, youth career fairs, and connects families with resources like Ameren, Spire, and Community Action Agency St. Louis. She also launched the first-ever Glory of Missouri Awards in the Ferguson Florissant School District and continues to spotlight local excellence.
